On April 8, GRG Intelligence, Bank of China Shenzhen Branch, and Shenzhen Metro jointly developed and successfully implemented a small-scale application of digital RMB hard wallets for power-free and network-free payments in the metro scenario, marking the first case of a hard wallet “dual-channel mode for rail transit” in China.
In recent years, the pilot scope of digital RMB has continued to expand, with increasingly diverse application scenarios, gradually transitioning from a “novelty” to a “commonly used” stage, and constructing an increasingly improved digital payment ecosystem. As the core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen leverages technological innovation to provide foreigners visiting China with a more convenient closed-loop ecosystem for digital RMB hard wallet consumption and travel, further promoting international exchange and cooperation.
During the trial period of the digital RMB hard wallet, the “dual-channel mode for rail transit” was first launched at designated stations on Shenzhen Metro Line 8, including Hong’anwei Station, Yantianxu Station, Dameisha Station, and Xiaomeisha Station. Invited customers can easily complete payments and ride the metro by simply tapping their digital RMB hard wallets to pass through the gates. According to Shenzhen Metro operation personnel, this new payment method is convenient and fast, providing passengers with a higher quality travel experience.
This project was jointly developed by GRG Intelligence, in collaboration with Bank of China Shenzhen Branch and Shenzhen Metro Group, under the guidance of the People’s Bank of China Digital Currency Research Institute. It follows the latest specifications for digital RMB hard wallets in the rail transit industry and is the first in China to launch a dual-mode solution of “smart locking + delayed deduction”. This solution not only ensures the security and accuracy of payments but also significantly improves payment efficiency, setting a new benchmark for the promotion of digital RMB in small-value, high-frequency rail transit scenarios.
In terms of building the digital RMB ecosystem, GRG Intelligence has assisted China Construction Bank Guangzhou Branch in creating a “digital RMB + tram” scenario, won the bid for the digital RMB payment retrofit project for Guangzhou Metro, and successfully launched digital RMB payment functionality on the Shenzhen Metro internet payment platform. This provides strong application support for achieving full-form, full-channel, and full-scenario coverage of digital RMB in the public transportation sector.
